Night at the V&A

Anna, (on the left in the picture) hired this black and gold lace top with embellishment, and then accessorised it with this tulle black scarf for the evening – how very formal they all look!

Charity Ball at The Grosvenor House

This gorgeous looking lady went to a Charity Ball last week at the Grosvenor House. In aid for the charity,  The Children’s Trust 30th Anniversary Ball.

“I want to thank you so much for your personalised, attentive service. You helped me find exactly the right dress for me, and the fact that you were able to tailor it to me was a wonderful extra benefit. I will definitely come back to you when the need next arises, and will also tell my friends.” Maria McHugh.

Sequin Queen

This angelic looking lady, Nasreen, hired this silver sequin gown from us to attend a wedding at the swanky Grosvenor House. She had sense too, and also hired the XL faux fur wrap, as it was super cold that night – what a perfect winter outfit!

Winter White Gala

600 hundred guests embarked on Kensington Palace for their charity ball, Winter Whites Gala, which took place on Tuesday 26th November. An event which raises money for the charity, Centrepoint, for homeless young people. An astounding 1million was raised on the night.

Celebrity guests included, Prince William, Jon Bon Jovi, and Taylor Swift. This handsome trio pictured, were lucky enough to attend this event, and boy did they enjoy it! The two ladies hired their whole outfits from us, and we were more than happy to help make them sparkle for their winter ball.

How To Measure Yourself

You may want some help when doing this.

Height

1. Stand straight with your feet together

2. Start at the top of your head and pull the measuring tape down to the floor (you may need some help with this)

3. Don’t wear shoes

Waist

1. Your waist is usually found 1inch above your bellybutton

2. Wrap the measuring tape around your waist, not so tight so allowing you to breathe comfortably

Hips

1. Your hips are generally about 7” below your waist (depending on your size)

2. Looking in a mirror, find the widest part of your hips

3. The measuring tape should brush across both of your hipbones

Shoulder

1. You start by measuring at the back, from one edge of the shoulder socket to the next shoulder socket

Bust

1. Relax your arms

2. Keep your bra on, as you’re not measuring your bra size

3. Pull the tape around the back across the shoulder blades, then under your arms and across the fullest part of your bust – take measurement

BAFTA Awards – treat yourself: why not hire a beautiful evening gown, instead?

So, you’ve got the coveted invite to the BAFTA’s,  only a matter of weeks away. If it’s not a gleeful “yippee a chance to show off my Valentino” it may be that panicky feeling: ‘Oh, what am I going to wear?’ We all get that feeling don’t we? You might go shopping for something in a rush, repenting later or you could come and rent one of our perfect evening dresses.

We’ve been styling nominees and guests for over 30 years and are expert in dressing you up. It’s a long evening, so as well as looking the part in an outfit you can comfortably sit in you’ll need comfortable shoes too!

Tip: you might need a colourful, possibly jewelled wrap to keep you warm also.

How to dress for the Diplomatic Ball at Buckingham Palace

Every year Buckingham Palace holds their Diplomatic Ball. The Dress code? White Tie.

This event is where jewels, gloves and the-less-black-the better are de rigueur.

Buckingham Palace

Alternatively, ladies can wear formal National dress, but as you can imagine quite a few prefer to get beautifully gowned and coiffed. It’s a buffet: lots of standing around albeit in glorious surroundings so remember comfortable shoes are important –

White Tie ballgowns have a certain fullness and must reach the floor, but leave the trainers at home!

A helpful tip from the ladies at One Night Stand: golden ballet pumps work really well.
