BAFTAS Follow Up

Julianne Moore last night won the Bafta for Best Actress for her role in the drama, Still Alice. She wore a long sleeved, floor length choker neck scarlet coloured dress.

Who says redheads can’t wear red?!

BAFTA

It’s that time of year again, where award winning actors and actresses are credited for their performances throughout the year. But I can’t bypass this blog-post without a mention of the glamorous, show stopping, jaw dropping, evening dresses that grace the red carpet every February. It’s black tie at its finest. And we are lucky to say, we have some of our own attending this prestigious event.

Keep on the lookout for photos from the event.

City Ball

Jess is here again, wearing a very sexy, low back, high neck, with flesh coloured inserts, to a City Ball.

There is no surprise why this is a very sort after dress!

Raft and Walking With The Wounded

Lavinia attended the Raft and Walking With The Wounded, Charity Gala Dinner, back in November at The Hurlingham Club.

She wore our famous black one shoulder floor length evening dress.

Christmas Party

Lyga wanted something elegant and sexy for her work Christmas party.

She certainly made the right choice with this simple long black, low v-neck gown, and modest split on the leg.

Russian Ball

Jessica, one of our regulars, is seen wearing our blue/purple floral ball-gown to the Russian Ball last October.

Modelling Shoot

This gorgeous lady hired one of our gowns for a modelling shoot recently.

The photographer is called, Rhody Sims, more of his brilliant work can be seen here http://www.rhodysims.com/

Prom Time

Dovile decided to go short for her prom last summer. Her outfit is very demure, the setting is very Jane Austen, plus she takes a cracking photo.

Warwick Racecourse

Emma (left) hired our incredible strapless, tulle fishtail, heavily encrusted gown for her cousin’s 18th birthday party.

They had the whole of Warwick Racecourse for the occasion. That sure is something to dress to the high 9’s for!

Elton John Ball

This is the charming Brenda. She was invited last week to Elton John’s prestigious annual summer ball, held in Windsor, where money is raised for Elton’s AIDS Foundation.

She looks an absolute knock-out in our navy heavy jersey, capped shoulder, floor length gown.

Lady in Blue

This pretty lady attended her friend’s wedding in London. She was after something long and glamorous for the occasion. So we kitted her out with this beautiful long, 3 layer tulle gown, with a-line embellishment.

We think we Monica looks splendid, and I’m sure she felt as good as she looks!

Natalie Pinkham

Here’s the gorgeous Natalie Pinkham, wearing one of our gowns to the Jaguar Academy Of Sport Annual Awards, earlier this year.

A few kind words from her to us.

“One Night Stand has a wonderful collection of dresses and jewellery, you are guaranteed to find the perfect frock for a special occasion. They are very friendly and helpful with styling tips. Plus the resident cat Yoda always loves a cuddle!

If you want it specific to the Jaguar Awards…

I wanted something stylish but comfortable and at ONS I fell in love with a number of dresses but ultimately went for this one…which fitted like a glove

London Fitness Fashion Show

Patricia, the lady on the right, is one of our regular customers.

She had a super exciting event to attend, the London Fitness Fashion Show at the 02 recently and see came third place.

Of course, she is wearing our knock out gold strapless dress, a true winner in our eyes!

Being Cinderella for the Evening

Our beautiful Annette (pictured in the middle) wearing our full skirted navy ball-gown with gem embellishment.

She had her very formal end of year white tie ball to attend at Oxford – She looks absolutely knock out here!

Belle of the Ball

Our beautiful client, Rachel (right) had her annual awards ceremony with work to attend earlier this month.

She’s full of confidence and not afraid to go glamorous. We decided on the full length gold strapless dress would be ideal.. next time round I’m sure she’ll be back to hire something even more elaborate.

Only 21 Once!

Our lovely lady Georgie, (first picture, right) is wearing our floor length strapless 1920’s style gold/silver dress.

She wore it to her friend’s 21st birthday party, (second picture, far right) These girls all look smashing. I’m sure a party to remember!

Night at the V&A

Anna, (on the left in the picture) hired this black and gold lace top with embellishment, and then accessorised it with this tulle black scarf for the evening – how very formal they all look!

Charity Ball at The Grosvenor House

“I want to thank you so much for your personalised, attentive service. You helped me find exactly the right dress for me, and the fact that you were able to tailor it to me was a wonderful extra benefit. I will definitely come back to you when the need next arises, and will also tell my friends.” Maria McHugh.

A Touch of Green

This is the lovely Emily, she  hired  this strapless sweetheart neckline emerald green gown for her birthday recently. Her theme was Oz, and her guests were encouraged to wear ‘A touch of green’. I think she sure looks the part.

I wonder if she had some red shoes on to match the occasion?

Marvellous Monte Carlo

This lucky dress got to go to Monte Carlo would you believe. Snezana wore it to the Angel Film Awards – Monaco International Film Festival 2013, over the weekend just gone.

And isn’t she wearing so well? If only she could of taken me too 🙂

Winter White Gala

600 hundred guests embarked on Kensington Palace for their charity ball, Winter Whites Gala, which took place on Tuesday 26th November. An event which raises money for the charity, Centrepoint, for homeless young people. An astounding 1million was raised on the night.

Celebrity guests included, Prince William, Jon Bon Jovi, and Taylor Swift. This handsome trio pictured, were lucky enough to attend this event, and boy did they enjoy it! The two ladies hired their whole outfits from us, and we were more than happy to help make them sparkle for their winter ball.

Fabulous Fashionistas

Did you watch that programme on Channel 4 last night? It was brilliant! So inspiring, it made me want to change my life, wear bold colours, start a new fitness regime and throw out any beige coloured clothing I own.

If you didn’t watch it, you should. It’s basically about 6 ladies who are all older, ranging from 73 up to an astounding 90 years old. Sue the 73 year old, who decided one day to pack in her famous cookbook empire to become a quirky artist, plus she’ll never be seen without one of her homemade accessories when she leaves the house and also made an interesting quote, “My motto is, don’t wear beige. It will kill you.”

Another inspiring lady, Jean 75, took to changing her life through fashion after her husband passed away after 50 years of marriage. One day she mentioned to her son she’d like to work maybe in a charity shop? To which he said to her after a moment’s thought “why not try Gap, mum?” Which Jean thought about and ended up working in Gap for over a year.

All these ladies have heartening stories, reasons why they are extroverts in their own individual ways. We may not be seeing these ladies in the fashion industry anytime soon, but why shouldn’t they have fun?

In the programme, they project the feeling that getting old doesn’t mean you have to fade into the background. From Dr Martens, long hair, colourful layers, to the oldest working model in the UK, this is a programme to be seen by all.

Glyndebourne Opera Festival

Glyndebourne has taken place annually since 1943. This beautifully country house, estimated to be around 600 years old is located in East Sussex.

Glyndebourne is attended by those who have a love for opera, and beautiful scenery. There is plenty to do, it’s a full day if not more: fine dining, and lots of Art & Sculpture to admire. The festival itself runs from the middle of May until the last weekend of August. Whilst those who generally attend the festival come for the opera (tickets needed) most also like to make a day of it, and take time to immerse themselves in the wonderful gardens, where you can bring a picnic and take in all that Glyndebourne has to offer.

So you have your ticket and you are ready to attend this grand event. The next most important thing: What to wear? You know this really is an event you can afford to go all out and look fabulous for!

We advise, stick with the tradition of wearing an evening gown. The founder, John Christie always said, he felt this was one of the ways the audience could show respect for the performers. Plus it’s an excuse to get dressed up.

Ladies tend to go with long dresses, floaty, colourful, even a print can look very feminine. A wrap works well too, an organza wrap can easily brighten up an outfit, and works well in the evening when it starts to get a little chillier. Obviously a nice coat works well too, if you tend to feel the cold in the evening.

Shoes, wear comfortable ones. If you intend on strolling around the gardens, maybe don’t opt for a stiletto heel, as we know they tend to sink into the ground. A simple court shoe might be more effient, or just go with flats – the safer option.
