Belle of the Ball

Our beautiful client, Rachel (right) had her annual awards ceremony with work to attend earlier this month.

She’s full of confidence and not afraid to go glamorous. We decided on the full length gold strapless dress would be ideal.. next time round I’m sure she’ll be back to hire something even more elaborate.

Only 21 Once!

Our lovely lady Georgie, (first picture, right) is wearing our floor length strapless 1920’s style gold/silver dress.

She wore it to her friend’s 21st birthday party, (second picture, far right) These girls all look smashing. I’m sure a party to remember!

Night at the V&A

Anna, (on the left in the picture) hired this black and gold lace top with embellishment, and then accessorised it with this tulle black scarf for the evening – how very formal they all look!

Charity Ball at The Grosvenor House

This gorgeous looking lady went to a Charity Ball last week at the Grosvenor House. In aid for the charity,  The Children’s Trust 30th Anniversary Ball.

“I want to thank you so much for your personalised, attentive service. You helped me find exactly the right dress for me, and the fact that you were able to tailor it to me was a wonderful extra benefit. I will definitely come back to you when the need next arises, and will also tell my friends.” Maria McHugh.

Livery Dinner

This is the lovely Beth, who attended a Livery dinner with her better half last week – She’s wearing our super sexy, gold embroidered shoulder dress with front and back mesh inserts – a real show stopper!

“Thanks. I loved the dress. Didn’t want to take it off. The whole experience was  a delight! I had lots of compliments!” Beth France.

A Touch of Green

This is the lovely Emily, she  hired  this strapless sweetheart neckline emerald green gown for her birthday recently. Her theme was Oz, and her guests were encouraged to wear ‘A touch of green’. I think she sure looks the part.

I wonder if she had some red shoes on to match the occasion?

Winter Sparkle!

This lovely group pictured here, attended Emma’s 18th, (2nd from the left) at the Hurlingham in December just gone. The theme was Winter Sparkle, and don’t they all look magnificent?

Carol, Emma’s mum, (pictured on the left) wore an evening gown from us in navy and lace, full length. She couldn’t have looked more perfect in my opinion!

Marvellous Monte Carlo

This lucky dress got to go to Monte Carlo would you believe. Snezana wore it to the Angel Film Awards – Monaco International Film Festival 2013, over the weekend just gone.

And isn’t she wearing so well? If only she could of taken me too 🙂

London Fashion Week

So I haven’t blogged for a while (I know, I know) it’s terrible of me!

But what a topic to kick off with – it’s only London Fashion Week. Yes, it’s that time of year again, the bi-annual event has kicked off in all its glory. If you don’t know much about LFW (which I’m sure most of you will) this is where the A-List of celebrities, dressed in their finest of course, throng the front row of the catwalk and watch majestically, in awe of the endless leggy models pacing up and down in some of the world’s top designers’ newest seasons’ ensembles.

One model that comes to mind, you probably guessed it? Cara Delevingne, the girl that everyone’s talking about, the girl that all designers want to use to show off their fabulous creations. Take Mulberry’s collection on Sunday just gone, Emma Hill’s outfits just spoke for themselves. There was an array of floral patterns, swinging shapes and leather outfits, and of course modelled by our very own Cara Delevingne

The Mathematical Queen

She’s mainly known for playing a big part in one of the most popular ever game shows, Count Down, in which she was part of for 26 years. That’s as old as me!

But nowadays Carol is mainly in the news relating to her current attire. Some articles give her credit, some slate her appearance. I’m neither here nor there about Carol, but she does pull it out of the bag every now and again with what she wears. She has a curvaceous figure and dresses it well (sometimes).

Some items she’s worn recently are maybe not to everyone’s taste? The skyscraper heels worn to her daughter’s birthday party last week, or the slight glimpse of ‘side boob’ on Thursday night. But one can’t say she doesn’t try – and generally, she gets its right!

Carol is pictured here in a Stella McCartney dress, worn to the British Inspiration Awards last night.

Karren Brady in a Jovani

So it was nice to see Karren Brady in a Jovani dress on the Piers Morgan show on Friday night. She can be seen in her interview wearing a long black high neck dress which features nude mesh inserts and a beautiful low back. She looked fantastic as ever of course.

The dress is new in for the Spring/Summer 2013 collection from Jovani. And can be hired from us here at One Night Stand in a size 10/12. Make an enquiry with us if you’re interested in looking as fabulous as Karren did last Friday.

Hipster Jeans – Have They Ruined 21st Century Women’s Figures?

When you were younger, did you wear your jeans too low? Or found that your knickers compared to now, were a lot more snug? And you look now, and you notice it seems to of created this indent in the side of your hips? If you answer yes to this questions don’t worry, you’re not the only one.

Victorian Corset

I discovered this years ago, when frankly I was standing in front of the mirror naked, when I noticed this hideous dip where my trousers usually sit, I didn’t think to much about it and forgot about it for awhile. Then I mentioned it to a friend on holiday and she too said she had this ‘Indent’ where her trousers sit on her hips. After we chatted about it for while, we came to the conclusion it must have been due to too many years of wearing hipster jeans (low rise). After trawling the internet, forums etc, I found that other women too like me have these little dips in their hips.

So, what can we do about it? Liposuction? Maybe spend an hour each night massaging the dents to plump them up again? Umm.. I reckon a change in clothing is the answer. Start by wearing underwear that’s not as tight, plus wearing it above your hips, so it sits nearer to your waist. I know this may look a little funny and somewhat unsexy at first. Also, try wearing high-waisted jeans too, they will give you that peachy shape again. And I believe if this is done properly, we may retain our once was ‘hour-glass’ shape back.
Remember the corset, famously worn by the Victorians. This garment was worn by women, and some men to create this desired feminine figure, historically made from whalebone. Women would go to the extreme corsetry involving ‘tight-lacing’ meaning when the corset laces are pulled tighter & tighter on a regular basis, you were to eventually achieve a smaller waist.

Women back then didn’t wear low rise jeans, so their figures weren’t affected in the way ours our today by certain clothing. Maybe we should revert back to our Ancestors fashion style? But for now, I’m going to try some high-waisted jeans! Let you know how it goes
